Meliza Abreu

Meliza Ruby Abreu is a Dominican-American artist, designer, and entrepreneur whose vibrant work is a celebration of culture, emotion, and purpose. Born in 1989 in Norwood, New Jersey, and raised amid the colors and rhythms of the Caribbean, Meliza’s creative spirit was shaped by her rich Dominican heritage—a theme that pulses through every brushstroke and design she creates.

Meliza studied Interior and Exterior Design at the Miami International University of Art and Design, laying the foundation for a multidisciplinary career that would span visual art, photography, and immersive design. Today, she is the founder and creative force behind Ruby’s Art Spot, a studio where art and cultural storytelling merge. Under her artistic moniker, By Melrub, she invites audiences into what she describes as a “whimsical world born from emotion, culture, and color.”

Her work is as meaningful as it is beautiful. In April 2024, Meliza partnered with fellow Dominican artist Ernesto Ríos Viñas for a photographic exhibition in West Palm Beach, aimed at raising funds to renovate a school in Rancho Arriba, Dominican Republic. This project is one of many that reflect her commitment to using art as a vehicle for social change and cultural advocacy.

A passionate community builder, Meliza regularly engages in creative collaborations throughout Florida’s art scene and is often connected with cultural events, including updates related to the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park. Her exhibitions often double as platforms for fundraising and awareness, reinforcing her belief that art can, and should, serve a greater purpose.

Balancing the roles of artist, designer, and cultural ambassador, Meliza continues to expand the legacy of Ruby’s Art Spot while fostering meaningful connections within the Dominican diaspora and beyond.

Laura Fernandez

My name is Laura Fernandez, and I was born in Uruguay, in a city where you cross the street, and you are in Brazil, giving me the opportunity to have both cultures in my life.

In 2006, we moved to Florida, where I’ve had the privilege to meet so many people from other countries, opening my mind even more to new perspectives.

Art has been in my life since I was 7 years old, when I started playing the piano, and Music has accompanied me since then.

After a hard time of depression, I decided I needed to see the beauty in the ordinary things, and for that, I bought a camera and started capturing beautiful details.

After working with many women for some years as a Mindset Coach, listening to their stories and helping them, I decided to create “MY NEW SELF SESSION” to empower and motivate women to find their own beauty through their photographs.

It is a 2-hour session where they go through Healing- Unleash - Empower (HUE).

Definitely a before and after.
